twoMalawi’s State President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, on Wednesday 6th December 2017 visited AHL Commodities Exchange (AHCX) head offices and trade centre at Maula in Lilongwe to appreciate its operations and how it can support government’s export diversification and enhancement agenda.

In his remarks after witnessing a live spot trading of Zambia-bound groundnuts at the exchange, the president hailed AHL Group for establishing AHCX which, he said, is a key component of the process of structuring the market for Malawi’s grain and legume crops.

The president said the structuring of the grain and legume crops market will help increase farmer prices for the crops and enable the Malawi government track all proceeds from exports of the crops.

He said his government has already started coming up with appropriate legislative and policy instruments to regulate the commodity exchange and exports of some selected grain and legume crops, citing the recently passed Warehouse Receipt Financing Act as an example.

He was optimistic that Malawi’s grain and legume commodities market will become fully structured by the end of the next 12 months.
